Ethical implications of policies and procedures

Take a moment to reflect on the topics discussed in the course materials so far, and then answer the following.

  1. Thinking about the households profiled in Evicted, try to identify any policies or actions by agency personnel or those involved with various systems (caseworkers, city personnel, courts, etc.) that present some ethical ambiguity. For example, is it ethical for the caseworker in Chapter 1 to place a mother with two children in substandard housing? Discuss the roles those of us involved with the provision of services have in developing and enforcing just policies and practices.
  2. Consider the policies or procedures relevant to the provision of services in your area of practice and provide one example of ethical ambiguity.
