Assignment: introducing specific hypothesis

Want create site? With you can do it easy.

Assignment: introducing specific hypothesis

Assignment: introducing specific hypothesis

Permalink:

Assignment: The introduction states a specific hypothesis and how that hypothesis was derived by connecting it to previous research

Research Report Write a research report based on a hypothetical research study. Conducting research and writing a report is common practice for many students and practitioners in any of the behavioral sciences fields. A research report, which is based on scientific method, is typically composed of the different sections listed below: Introduction: The introduction states a specific hypothesis and how that hypothesis was derived by connecting it to previous research. Methods: The methods section describes the details of how the hypothesis was tested and clarifies why the study was conducted in that particular way. Results: The results section is where the raw uninterpreted data is presented. Discussion: The discussion section is where an argument is presented on whether or not the data supports the hypothesis, the possible implications and limitations of the study, as well as possible future directions for this type of research. Together, these sections should tell the reader what was done, how it was done, and what was learned through the research. You will create a research report based on a hypothetical problem, sample, results, and literature review. Organize your data by creating meaningful sections within your report. Make sure that you: Apply key concepts of inferential hypothesis tests. Interpret the research findings of the study. Examine the assumptions and limitations of inferential tests. Develop a practical application of the research principles covered in this course. Focus of the Research Report To begin, create a hypothetical research study (you do not have to carry out the study; you will just have to describe it) that is based on the three pieces of information listed below. Once you have your hypothetical study created, write a three- to four-page research report (excluding title and reference pages) that outlines the study. You are encouraged to be creative with your research study, but be sure to follow the format outlined below and adhere to APA formatting as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Your hypothetical research study should be based on the following information: Recent research has indicated that eating chocolate can improve memory. Jones and Wilson (2011) found that eating chocolate two hours before taking math tests improved scores significantly. Wong, Hideki, Anderson, and Skaarsgard (2009) found that women are better than men on memory tests after eating chocolate. There were 50 men and 50 women who were randomly selected from a larger population. A t-test was conducted to compare men and women’s performance on an assessment after eating chocolate. The results showed an independentt-test value of t .05(99) = 3.43; p < .05 Your research study must contain the following: Title Page Title of your report Your name The course Instructor Date Introduction Introduce the research topic, explain why it is important, and present the purpose of the paper and the research question and hypothesis. Discuss how this study is related to other research on the topic. Elaborate on the information from the references you were given. State how they relate to your hypothesis. Your introduction must: Consist of a paragraph explaining what you are studying and why. Use previously cited research to explain your expectations and discuss how those expectations led to your hypothesis. State a clear and testable hypothesis and whether it is one-tailed or two-tailed. Make sure it is understandable to someone who has not read the rest of your paper yet. State the null hypothesis. Include a justification of the direction of your hypothesis. In other words, explain why you chose the direction of your hypothesis if it is one-tailed (e.g., previous research suggests that people with big feet are more likely to score higher on math tests; therefore the hypothesis is one-tailed) or if it is two-tailed (e.g., previous research is not clear on which group will perform better; therefore, the hypothesis is two-tailed). Describe why this study is important. Method Design: State the experimental design of your study, the independent and dependent variables, and what the task was (e.g., what you had the participants do). Participants: Identify and describe your sample, how the participants were selected to be in the study, and why you chose them. Provide details for how each individual was assigned to each group. Procedure: Describe the precise procedure you used to conduct this research (i.e., exactly what you did). It should be clear enough that anyone could replicate your study. This is the subsection where you tell the reader how you collected the data. Data Analysis: Describe the statistical procedure used in the study to analyze the data. Results: In this section, you will describe the statistical results: State the statistical tests that were used. Justify the choice of test. State the observed value and significance level and whether the test was one or two-tailed. State your conclusion in terms of the hypothesis. Did you accept or reject the null hypothesis? Discussion: Discuss your results as they relate to your hypothesis. Did you accept the hypothesis or reject it? Compare your results to the previous studies mentioned in the introduction. Are your results similar or different? Discuss why. Tell the readers what your findings mean. Why did you get the results you did? Identify limitations to your study. Suggest ways your study could be improved. Suggest ideas for future research, not just a continuation of your study, but research that is similar to this study. Perhaps one of the variables could be changed or a different sample could be investigated. Finish with a concluding paragraph that is a statement of your findings and the key points of the discussion. Conclusion: Write a paragraph detailing your experience with writing a research report. Discuss how easy/difficult it was to write a false report that reads like real results, and how this experience might affect you review research in the future. Do you think this experience will provide you with a useful skill in your potential career? References: You will create a minimum of three fictitious references in the following format based on the information you have created in the preceding sections of the report: Author, A., & Author, B. (Publication year). Title of the article. Journal Name, volume number(issue number), page numbers. Example: Jones, A., & Williams, B. (2013). Why monkeys are good pets. Journal of Silly Science, 23(4), pp. 221-222. You may access the Critical Thinking Community website for tips on how to formulate your report in a logical and meaningful manner. Writing the Research Report The Assignment: Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Must include a title page with the following: Title of paper Student’s name Course name and number Instructor’s name Date submitted Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Must include the sections with the appropriate headings and content listed above. Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Assignment on phenomenological investigation

Assignment on phenomenological investigation

Assignment on phenomenological investigation

Permalink:  ‎

Assignment: An existential-phenomenological investigation of the experience of being accepted in individuals who have undergone psychiatric institutionalization.

The article chosen uses a phenomenological design, which examines perceptions of experiences and circumstances people or groups have.  Grounded theory in contrast but similarity, uses other sources to gather data, such as observers and letters, in order to establish a theory that is grounded through data and comparative analysis; while narrative research follows narrative therapy in using the person’s own words and gathers data similarly through writings and biographies (Sheperis, Young, & Daniels, 2010).  These qualitative designs use various data collection methods but they all look at the participant’s perspective to obtain a better understanding of the experience which in-turn allows for better treatment and interventions and further research.

This study focused on participant’s experiences surrounding being accepted after being institutionalized for their mental illness.  The study followed a philosophical and theoretical guide that allowed for a more in-depth look at treatment from a client’s perspective.  The main questions regarded what clients experienced after institutionalization and how they experienced being excepted and how it made them feel.  Over 61 million people in America experience a mental illness in a year and institutionalization brings with it a stigma from society and these stigmas can add to or create new illnesses such as depression, self-depreciation, low esteem and low satisfaction (Winn, 2016).

The study used an existential-phenomenological method to capture these experiences and also proved the co-participants with a validating experience.  It did not specify how they were selected, but nine participants were asked to describe in written detail when they have felt they were accepted or being accepted (Winn, 2016).  These written accounts were then analyzed, sorted into meaning units, and then formed into seven constituents which represented the experience of being accepted: feeling joy, valued, understood, loved, belongingness, respect and unacceptable, which this last one seems negative but the experiences of being unacceptable allowed for a fuller experience of the other 6 constituents (Winn, 2016).

The results really provide a deeper insight for counselors as to what a client might be experiencing after institutionalization from many different perspectives, such as their family and friends and even their counselor.  Knowing this information offers the counselor to really adapt and tune-in to their awareness and receptiveness of the client’s experiences and enhance their sensitivity and empathy for their experiences and provide an even safer environment for the client to open up and share their experiences.  This article was great in that it provided a background to phenomenology, humanistic and existential therapies and focused on the importance of the client’s experience concerning acceptance, however there was not much on literature review or limitations and the author had a bias towards individuals who have more severe illnesses but she does suggest for further research on this subject and to expand even to individuals who also may struggle with physical and learning disabilities too.  Overall this article will help add to my proposal as it helps offer insight into client experiences while in an institution and after which helps support my theory and concerns that the clients experience is essential to successful discharge.

Assignment: Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education

The RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University meets the requirements for clinical competencies as defined by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), using nontraditional experiences for practicing nurses. These experiences come in the form of direct and indirect care experiences in which licensed nursing students engage in learning within the context of their hospital organization, specific care discipline, and local communities.

Note: This is an individual assignment. In 1,500-2,000 words, describe the teaching experience and discuss your observations. The written portion of this assignment should include:

  1. Summary of teaching plan
  2. Epidemiological rationale for topic
  3. Evaluation of teaching experience
  4. Community response to teaching
  5. Areas of strengths and areas of improvement

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

There appear to be two main ways in which researchers who use other qualitative methods use theoretical and conceptual frameworks.

The first is in the design of the study where, if it is explicit, the framework can often be found as a section in the literature review (Fulton and Krainovich-Miller 2010). However, many authors (Polit and Tatano Beck 2004, Parahoo 2006, Fulton and Krainovich-Miller 2010) have found that researchers often do not make the theoretical or conceptual frameworks of studies explicit in relation to how these guided their studies. This does not mean that they did not have such frameworks, simply that they may be embedded in the literature review (Fulton and Krainovich-Miller 2010).

Somekh and Lewin (2005) suggested that most social science research starts with a theoretical framework, goes on to analyse the data, before developing new theories or variations of existing theories as outcomes.

Robson (2002) suggested that most new researchers find it useful to develop a conceptual model – the diagrammatic form of a conceptual framework – and refine it as data collection and analysis takes place. LoBiondo-Wood (2010) felt that the fit between the theoretical framework and the other steps of the research after the design strengthens the study and gives the researcher confidence in the evidence provided by the findings.

Even where theoretical or conceptual frameworks are mentioned in the title of an article, it is unusual for there to be a discussion of what these are in the article itself. However, Goddard et al (2013) used a theoretical framework in the design of their randomised controlled trial and Smith et al (2012) identified a theoretical framework before researching the knowledge base of screening tools.

The second way in which researchers use theoretical and conceptual frameworks is in developing a framework. Parahoo (2006) argued

Discussion 2: Anaphylactic Shock

Discussion 2: Anaphylactic Shock

Discussion 2: Anaphylactic Shock

The treatment of anaphylactic shock varies depending on a patient’s physiological response to the alteration. Immediate medical intervention and emergency room visits are vital for some patients, while others can be treated through basic outpatient care.

Consider the January 2012 report of a 6-year-old girl who went to her school nurse complaining of hives and shortness of breath. Since the school did not have any medication under her name to use for treatment and was not equipped to handle her condition, she was sent to an emergency room where she was pronounced dead. This situation has raised numerous questions about the progression of allergic reactions, how to treat students with severe allergies, how to treat students who develop allergic reactions for the first time, and the availability of epinephrine in schools. If you were the nurse at the girl’s school, how would you have handled the situation? How do you know when it is appropriate to treat patients yourself and when to refer them to emergency care?

To prepare:

· Review “Anaphylactic Shock” in Chapter 23 of the Huether and McCance text, “Distributive Shock” in Chapter 10 of the McPhee and Hammer text, and the Jacobsen and Gratton article in the Learning Resources.

· Identify the multisystem physiologic progression that occurs in anaphylactic shock. Think about how these multisystem events can occur in a very short period of time.

· Consider when you should refer patients to emergency care versus treating as an outpatient.

· Select two patient factors different from the one you selected in this week’s first Discussion: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Reflect on how the factors you selected might impact the process of anaphylactic shock.

QUESTIONS to be addressed in my assignment:

1. An explanation of the physiological progression that occurs in anaphylactic shock.

2. Describe the circumstances under which you would refer patients for emergency care versus treating as an outpatient.

3. Explain how the patient factors you selected might impact the process of anaphylactic shock.

4. Summary with Conclusion

REMINDERS:

1) 2-3 pages (addressing the 4 questions above excluding the title page and reference page).

2) Kindly follow APA format for the citation and references! References should be between the period of 2011 and 2016. Please utilize the references at least three below as much as possible and the rest from yours.

3) Make headings for each question.
