This Friday I want to see action in the copy machine area, things like emptying waste baskets, and you should organize paper and toner supplies. The lunch room is a disaster area. You must do something about the counters, the refrigerator, the sinks, and the coffee machine. And any food left in the refrigerator on Friday afternoon should be thrown out because it stinks by Monday. Finally, the office supply shelves should be straightened.

If you can’t do a better job this Friday, I will have to make a cleaning schedule. Which I don’t want to do. But you may force me to.

The first step is to articulate your own privacy philosophy. Importantly though this should be done with reference to the readings from the first few weeks of class, i.e. it is not just your opinion on philosophy, but an informed position, one which reflects engagement with the multiple and complicated definitions of privacy. In this philosophy you should articulate which arguments about privacy you find most persuasive and what makes them so. For instance, you might want to consider whether you think privacy is an individual right (the right to be left alone), or a social good (necessary for a community). You will want to articulate which aspects of privacy you find to be most valuable (for example space, information, decision, choices, etc). Importantly you will want to articulate which privacy “threat” you find the most concerning, for example government intrusion (Big Brother), the intrusion of others (Little Brother), the obfuscation of surveillance and intrusion, intrusion and data collection by corporations (data collection), etc.. Note these aren’t mutually exclusive but you will want to focus on which ones are most important to you along with the reasons and motivations for this (again this will require reference to the class readings). Ultimately you want to explain what parts of privacy most concern you and why. You might want to use one or two specific examples to illustrate your position (do not however use lots of examples, one or two focused examples=good, thirty two examples=bad).

### Plan of Action

As you start to experiment with the above, you want to develop what your long term privacy plan is. After class is over what are you going to do different going forward to reclaim some of your privacy, what practical daily things are you going to do? These should be informed by philosophy (i.e. reclaiming aspects that are most important to you). These should be all the things you want to do different from now on. These can be small things like avoiding Google search (use DuckDuckGo), managing Facebook privacy settings (regularly checking these, not using apps), or larger more ambitious ones such as getting off Google entirely, or not using Facebook. In this section you will need to detail all the steps, as well as the cost and benefits of each step. Make this list both thorough and reasonable (what you will actually do).

The Health Insurance Marketplace, or Exchange, is an online shopping center based at HealthCare.gov . It’s where to go to apply for coverage, find out if you qualify for savings, and make changes to your health plan.

Visit http://www.healthcare.gov/get-coverage to find out if your state uses the federal Marketplace or a state based Marketplace.

If your employer offers health insurance coverage, they may have a website where you can shop for plans. This is called a “private exchange,” and it’s different from the Federal or State Marketplaces.

The Marketplace makes it possible to find health care coverage that meets your needs and budget.

During the Open Enrollment Period, you can view, compare, and apply for Cigna individual medical plans online directly through Cigna. You can also see if you are eligible for federal financial assistance and apply that assistance to your Cigna plan.

Who shops on the Marketplace?
If you and your family don’t have health insurance coverage through your job, you can choose a health plan from the Marketplace and pay for it on your own. If you are self-employed or unemployed, the Marketplace is a place to go for health coverage. If your employer offers health insurance coverage, you can still shop the Marketplace, but you will pay full price for your plan. Everyone who shops the health insurance Marketplace must be a U.S. citizen and live in the United States. If you qualify for Medicare, you are not eligible to shop the Marketplace. People who are incarcerated are also not eligible.

When can I buy a plan on the Marketplace?
You can shop for health insurance during Open Enrollment or a Special Enrollment Period. The 2020 Open Enrollment period starts November 1, 2019 and ends December 15, 2019.* A Special Enrollment Period is open to people for 60 days after certain life changes such as moving, getting married or having a baby.

What kinds of health insurance plans are available on the Marketplace?
There are four levels of health plans that you can buy on the Marketplace: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. (“Catastrophic” plans may be available to some people.) Each level pays a different portion of your health care bills.

You will also pay a portion of your health care expenses through your monthly premium, copays, deductible, and coinsurance. The amount you pay depends on your plan.

The right plan to choose will depend on many factors, which vary from one person to another.
